ThinkServer and Windows Server 2012

With support for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 ending, patches for security issues will no longer be provided, potentially leaving your outdated system vulnerable. Windows Server 2012 on ThinkServer provides the modern security hardware features of the Intel® Xeon® processor that offers the protection of fast, low-overhead encryption, high-quality keys, and secure key storage.

Businesses need to ensure security and compliance by taking advantage of new capabilities in hardware and software. Sarbanes-Oxley, UK Data Protection Act, HIPPA, FedRAMP, Payment Card Industry (PCI), etc. require security enforcement and create audit needs.

Lenovo ThinkServers are priced right and include many extras in the price of the server – including standard web remote management, hardware RAID adapter, easy 3-step installation rail kits, EasyManage, EasyStartup and EasyUpdate applications, as well as Smart Grid power management. Lenovo offers branded Microsoft OEM Windows Server 2012 licensing to save you even more.

HIPAA Rule

Does the Security Rule mandate minimum operating system requirements for the personal computer systems used by a covered entity?

Answer:

No. The Security Rule was written to allow flexibility for covered entities to implement security measures that best fit their organizational needs. The Security Rule does not specify minimum requirements for personal computer operating systems, but it does mandate requirements for information systems that contain electronic protected health information (e-PHI). Therefore, as part of the information system, the security capabilities of the operating system may be used to comply with technical safeguards standards and implementation specifications such as audit controls, unique user identification, integrity, person or entity authentication, or transmission security.  Additionally, any known security vulnerabilities of an operating system should be considered in the covered entity’s risk analysis (e.g., does an operating system include known vulnerabilities for which a security patch is unavailable, e.g., because the operating system is no longer supported by its manufacturer).

Microsoft Ends Support for Server 2003

On July 14, 2015, Microsoft will end support for Windows Server 2003.

Here’s why this is a really big deal for you:

After July 14, 2015, users of Windows Server 2003 will not receive any updates or patches to combat security issues

• Support on Windows Server 2003 applications and programs, as well as phone support, will be discontinued

• For businesses who rely on credit card processing, their systems will not pass compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards

• Without compliant systems, vendors like Visa® and MasterCard® may no longer do business with these companies

Modernize with Thinkserver for Dentists

Reduce cost, improve security and compliance

With the increased digitization of business, government, in fact all organizations, no one is doing fewer applications or less computing. However, without a modern infrastructure, all these organizations will not be able to address their growing computing needs without costs running away, increasing security risks, and running out of space, cooling and power capacity.

If you’re running Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 on older hardware, you’re running 10 year old technology. Outdated servers can be inefficient to run and more expensive to maintain.

Reduce your costs and plan for additional capacity taking advantage of the power efficiency of Lenovo ThinkServer® with Intel® Xeon® Processors and Intel® Intelligent Power Technology enhancements on Windows Server 2012. Fortunately, the latest Lenovo ThinkServers running Intel® Xeon® processors with Microsoft Windows Server 2012, enable our customers to do more, more securely, with less.
